Taking Shape Stage 6
With great anticipation we looked in on Brent and Janine Murray’s building project this week. We have been following the progress of the building of their new home that this young newly married couple have undertaken. Being built under the careful management of David Skudder from Generation Homes, the house is due to be completed in just 14 weeks; the Generation Homes promise.
This week was another big ‘milestone’ in the project which saw the Limestone coloured Austral Bricks added to the frame. This was completed by Andy Collins who is contracted to Generation Homes. “This brings together the external colour choices made by Brent and Janine at the beginning of their building journey,” says David Skudder. “It’s great to see it all coming together, their home is taking shape before their eyes. This week also saw the electrical pre-wiring (Laser Electrical Whangarei) and the plumbing pipe out (Laser Plumbing) installed ready for insulation to be installed next week.
We asked Brent and Janine why they chose their colours. “The brick we have chosen is a sandy colour and will good with the tropical theme we have chosen for the landscaping,” they told us. “And we really just wanted everything to flow. The roof colours were chosen to match the doors and the joinery was chosen to blend with the brick”.
“We found it really hard picking colours out of a book,” says Janine. “It’s really hard to know whether it will look good all together. We stuck to neutral colours inside because we envisioned having bright/colourful paintings and cushions and other décor”.
“When we saw the house with the bricks on it felt like another huge step in the build was complete, it is all happening so fast! It’s great!” Clearly they are happy with the way things are progressing.
It is a very exciting time for Brent and Janine seeing all the careful planning and decision making they did early on in the piece now coming together. Decisions have to be made right down to where the electrical points are to be placed. “We were shown early on where the power points would be and asked if we wanted to make any changes. We just made sure we had a wall plug for the television in the master bedroom so it could be hung. Everything else met our needs”.
As it all starts to come together the search has turned to interior needs. “We have been looking around getting idea’s for shelves and cabinets for the lounge,” says Janine. “But we really want to wait a while before getting into buying too much for the interior”. Now they can see clearly what the outside will look like it will be an exciting wait for them to see their interior colour choices implemented. However, that is a while down the track. Next week the insulation is due to be installed and the ground prepared for landscaping.
Keep following Brent and Janine’s exciting journey to their brand new home.
