A few years ago as a young reporter I was assigned the job of rooting through the manifesto of every party campaigning in the general election of 2014. It was fascinating: parties which a lot of us might have assumed were disorganised had some really organised policies in their manifesto (I remember NZ First and the Maori Party had detailed positions on almost every issue), while other parties which should have been better prepared seemed really lacking to me (as I recall, the Conservative Party had very few policies in writing as the election loomed.)
Anyway, this year’s general election is September 23. Every party that wants to form a government will affect housing somehow, so here are some of the policies to take note of. This is not a comprehensive list, just some highlights I’ve either heard before or am pleasantly surprised by:
